Care and Maintenance
How do I clean my Hunter Douglas window fashions?
At Hunter Douglas, we design our window fashions to require minimal care and cleaning.
You won’t have to do much to keep them looking like new, aside from regular dusting and periodic vacuuming. We create products that are dust, soil and stain resistant, and
exhaustively research cleaning solutions for spot-cleaning, from mild soap to lemon oil to wood preservatives, so that we know what works best with each product.

Care and Maintenance
Where can I have my Hunter Douglas window coverings repaired?
For warranty and/or repair service, please contact the dealer from whom you purchased the product. The dealer will work with the fabricator who assembled the product to promptly repair and/or replace any defective parts or components. Please contact your local Shop at Home branch by visiting our Where to buy page.

Care and Maintenance
Can I have my shades cut down?
Some of our products may be cut down, however there are certain limitations with fabrics, lift systems, cord routes and size in general. You will need to contact us, so we can
communicate with their fabricator to see what can be done.

Care and Maintenance
I changed the batteries in my Duette® honeycomb shade with PowerRise® and it still does not operate.
To reset the limits on your Duette honeycomb shade with PowerRise, you need to first gently pull on the bottom rail while pointing the remote control at the satellite eye. Once the blind is at the fully lowered position, hold the ‘down’ button on the remote for five to eight seconds while continuing to point the remote at the eye. Then raise the shade up as far as it will go and hold the ‘up’ button of your remote control for approximately five seconds. The fabric should stack tightly.

Care and Maintenance
Can I change the fabric on my existing hardware? How about the lifting system on my
existing shade?
There are very few products where fabric can be changed on existing hardware. Some lifting systems can be changed, but not all. Contact us for your options.

Installation
How do I measure for an inside/outside mount?
While we recommend you contact us to arrange for a professional to measure your windows, if you’d like to do it yourself, below are some general guidelines.

Inside Mount (IB)
Measure the width inside the window opening at the top, middle and bottom. The top measurement is critical because the head rail must fit. Record the actual dimension of the shortest width to the nearest one eighth of an inch.

Measure the height inside the window opening at left, right and center. Record the actual dimension of the shortest height to the nearest one eighth of an inch. Also measure the window on its diagonals. If the two diagonal dimensions are not exactly the same, it may be necessary to specify an outside mount for optimal fit, light control and privacy.

The ordered width should ensure a precise fit for the head rail and allow proper operation of the shade. If widths in the window vary, order the minimum width necessary to allow the shade to raise and lower properly.

The ordered height should ensure clean operation at the base of the window as well as provide maximum privacy and light control.

Be sure the window opening is deep enough to install the mounting bracket.

Outside Mount (OB)
Measure the desired width and height. To minimize light leakage, the shade should overlap the window opening at least 2” on each side and at the bottom.

When measuring the height, take into account the requirements for mounting the bracket attachment.

Installation
Why does Hunter Douglas take a standard deduction on shades ordered for an inside mount?
Standard deductions are taken on an inside mount to allow for the product to operate
properly without binding caused by too tight a fit.

Installation
Where do I mount brackets for an outside mount?
On an outside mount, three brackets are typically used: two that are positioned three inches from each end of the head rail, and one in the center. Depending on the width of the product you’ve chosen, you may need other brackets that are spaced evenly along the head rail’s length.

When a window fashion is called “energy efficient,” what does that mean?
At Hunter Douglas, an energy efficient window fashion is a product that helps to conserve energy inside a home. How well a product does this depends on three important properties: its ability to insulate room interiors from extreme exterior temperatures; its ability to flexibly control the flow of heat generated by the sun (solar energy flow); and its ability to provide optimal day lighting, which minimizes the need for electrical lighting. All Hunter Douglas products help to conserve energy inside a home. Our highest rated energy efficient window fashion is our Duette® Architella® honeycomb shade.

What vane sizes are available on your Silhouette® window shadings?
Silhouette window shadings, with the Signature S-Vane™, are available in two-, three-, and four-inch vane sizes. The Quartette® four-inch vane size is our latest innovation, providing a more expansive view than ever before.

Product
I see your products offer something called “UV protection.” What’s that?
UV stands for the sun’s ultraviolet rays. When we test our products for how well they filter out the sun’s UV rays, and the heat associated with those rays, we consider two important
variables: R-value and shading coefficient. R-value is a measurement of a product’s ability to resist heat flow. The higher the number, the better the insulation. Shading coefficient is a measurement of a product’s ability to shade against heat. The lower the number, the more effective it is in preventing heat gain and reflecting heat.

What’s the design benefit of using cornices?
Our Country Woods® Exposé™ wood cornices provide a finishing touch to your window
treatment. Besides looking elegant, cornices offer a much-needed measure of structural focus to any living space. More specifically, the placement of a cornice above a window frame tends to attract the eye upward, adding further height and space to your room.
Hunter Douglas cornices are available in six profiles, so coordinating with your room’s interior décor is trouble-free. With 46 colors and stains, your options are virtually endless. Take your pick: You can blend with your wall color or add an accent shade to your window design.
